2012 London Olympics - The Isle of Wonder

London will host the 2012 Olympics this summer and is going to the first location in the world to have held three Olympics games! London will use existing, newly built and historic facilities for the athletic events from July 27th through August 12. Famous and well-known historic venues being used for these games  and all the venues are very renowned all over the world.

 The Portland sailing facilities in Dorset and the Excel center.  Upgrading and expanding London’s public transport system was paramount to their being awarded the games and they have kept their part of the bargain by expanding London’s over ground  East line and adding the javelin height speed bullet train. There will be many additional trains in service during the running of the games athletic in London’s 2012 Olympics. The Olympic committee is planning on providing 80% of the participating athletes with lodgings that is 20 minutes or less from their event locations, and 93% of the participants should have no more than a 30 minute commute.

The Opening Ceremonies, one of the favorite televised events for people everywhere on earth has a theme called “The Isle of Wonder” and is being directed by Danny Boyle. Over 204 nations will have representation at these games. The expenses of games being held in London is being funded by : The Central Government(64%); The National Lottery (23%) and the London Mayor’s office (13%).
  
The United Kingdom was 4th in gold medals and total medals in the last Olympics in 2008 in Beijing, and the Great Britain Olympics committee feels strongly they will have a good showing on their own home ground. English athletes stepping up to the challenge are: Paula Radcliffe, marathoner; Tom Daily, Platform diver; Jessica Ennis, heptathlon; Chris Hoy, track cyclist; and Rebecca Adlington, swimmer. The United States is excited about Michael Phelps again this Olympics and he only needs three more medals to own more than any other Olympian in history! His strongest competition may be his own team mate Ryan Lochte. Jamaica has a strong contender in track with Usain Bolt and Denmark has a great tennis player, Caroline Wozniacki.

Some other United States hopefuls in the 2012 London Olympics are: Greg Bennett, Matt Chrabot and Ben Collins in Heptathalon; Jordyn Wieber, Rebecca Bross, Alicia Sacramone, and Alexandra Raisman in Gymnastics; and Hope Solo in Soccer.

There are 26 sports and 39 disciplines represented in these XXX Olympiad games held in London 2012 Olympics games. Gymnastics now has three disciplines: Artistic, Rhythmic and a new one, Trampoline. There will be 324 gymnasts competing in the events. Polls on the favorite events of past summer Olympics have put Volleyball at the head of the list. 12 team will be competing with 288 athletes  once again at these games. Basket ball has the same no. of participants. The single most favorite televised Olympic event from days past has been the 100m freestyle final in swimming. This year that event will be held on August 2, 2012. 950 athletes take part in the swimming events. Other popular Olympic sports are: Equestrian, where Great Britain hopes to do well; Men’s Tennis; the triathlon; wrestling events and Gymnastics, especially the team finals.
